Ellis Island Undesirable Immigrants, Vintage Photograph

In this vintage photo:

This photograph was simply labeled as "Undesirable Immigrants". No further explantation was given as to why these young women were labeled as such. In order to be approved for immigration into the United States, the applicant had to have the proper paperwork without problems; be in good health and fully able to work; and to be of sufficent financial means so as not to be likely to be on public assistance. Those that did not meet these requirements were returned to their country at the expense of the ship company that had originally brought them.
